Schumer and other New York Democrats abandon Israel: Letters

letters to the editor

The issue: the refusal of several New York politicians to condemn President Biden’s abandonment of Israel.

It is truly a rude awakening for New York’s Jews to find themselves abandoned by representatives they thought were pro-Israel, especially Senator Chuck Schumer (“NYC Dems AWOL on Israel”, Editorial, 11 May).

Another New York Dem who remains silent is Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, to whom I ask: How is she still in Congress?

It’s no surprise that many New York Democrats, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Jamaal Bowman, support President Biden’s “fuck you” move.

Likewise, Senator Chuck Schumer is a spineless liar who claims he is Israel’s biggest supporter — and yet bungles things to appease President Biden.

Alan Brooks

Schumer’s moral character can be summed up in his conniving attitude toward Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

It is clear that New York Democrats are silent about Biden’s departure from Israel, not out of any righteous indignation over the genocide in Palestine, but because they want votes.

That said, they would be wise to withdraw from supporting Israel, a genocidal apartheid state that has reportedly killed 35,000 Palestinians – many of whom are women and children.

I’m glad I live in a state where our senators are smart enough to see the writing on the wall and stop Israel’s campaign against the Palestinians. And I hope the rest of the country wakes up and comes to the same realization: that Israel is not our friend.

The attempt to pull the rug from under Israel at this crucial moment is a shameful abandonment of our most loyal ally.

Schumer’s career was marked by self-aggrandizement, but little actual achievement.

Instead, he was a total disappointment. He now scandalously supports President Biden’s decision to suspend arms shipments to Israel, amid the struggle for survival with a mortal enemy: Hamas.

Is Senator Schumer concerned about Biden’s refusal to send weapons to Israel? His silence is deafening.

Dennis Ander

Congress approved funding to send war materials to Israel and Ukraine, but now Israeli aid has been suspended – a clear attempt to undermine Israel’s right to exist.

Biden will go down as the most damaging president America has had.

Ken Karcinell

Hewlett, NY

The Post called Israel our “closest ally,” yet America’s relationship with Israel is fraught with danger.

The realpolitik of the moment should focus on Russia and China. We cannot take our eyes off the ball and allow ourselves to be drawn into a Hamas-Israel sideshow that is siphoning off our military resources.

It’s time to take off the blinders and prioritize our own country.

Ron Spurga

The worthless President Biden, turning his back on our ally in the Middle East, has completely surrendered to the mob for votes by delaying the shipment of ammunition, leaving Israel to fight for itself. The ultimate act of betrayal.

The “D” in “Democratic Party” now stands for “Don’t Look to Us to Help” – a party led in the Senate by a Judas named Schumer.

The fact that Joe Biden has now turned his back on Israel makes the world a more dangerous place. Israel has no choice in the extent to which it should protect itself from destruction. Bottom line: If Israel goes, so does the rest of the world.

Stu Silverman

Finally, when Israel was in desperate need of weapons, Schumer disappeared, betraying his roots and heritage. He is a coward and a traitor to the Jews.

Rich Klitzberg

Boca Raton, FL.
