SEC baseball power rankings enter the final week of the season

With just a week left in the SEC baseball season, things are starting to look clear for the conference title race.

Kentucky leads the standings with a 20-win game, and Tennessee and Arkansas are each one game behind at 19. Should there ultimately be a tie, all teams involved will share the conference title, but tiebreakers would determine the top seed determine the ranking. the SEC Tournament, which begins May 21.

Here’s how the SEC is heading into the final week:

1. Kentucky

Although both Kentucky and Tennessee won their series this weekend, the Wildcats get first-place honors for leading the SEC by one game. They are in the driver’s seat for the outright title, with both Tennessee and Arkansas a game behind.

2. Tennessee

Tennessee was eliminated for the first time this season in the series finale against Vanderbilt. The Vols will have to win one more game against South Carolina than Kentucky wins against the Commodores to capture the conference title.

Like Tennessee, Arkansas is undefeated in home series this season. The Razorbacks can still win the SEC, but will likely need a series win over Texas A&M along the way.

4. Texas A&M

Texas A&M has largely fallen out of the SEC race after losing consecutive series. The Aggies still have a fearsome offense and one of the best bullpens in the league, but there are some questions about Texas A&M’s starting rotation.

5. Mississippi State

Despite losing a lead in the rubber match against Arkansas, Mississippi State retains its spot. The Bulldogs have excellent pitching, but their offense is very top-heavy.

6. Georgia

Georgia is one of the biggest late-season performers in the SEC, with back-to-back series sweeps, including a road sweep over South Carolina. The Bulldogs are one of only two teams to make an SEC series this season. Kentucky is the other.

7. South Carolina

South Carolina burned its hosting chances by getting swept at home by Georgia. The Gamecocks have the necessary star power, but have been far too inconsistent.

8. Alabama

Alabama has two of the best high-end series wins in the league (Tennessee and Arkansas), but the Crimson Tide are still not assured of a postseason spot. Alabama hasn’t won a series this season and has struggled to win road games, but one win at Auburn should clinch a regional win.

Vanderbilt finally stopped its seven-game SEC losing streak with a win in the series finale over Tennessee, but the skid dropped the Commodores from the hosting bubble to the NCAA tournament bubble. Vanderbilt, which is 2-10 on the road in the conference, needs at least one win at Kentucky.

10. Ole ma’am

Ole Miss has surged late, winning back-to-back series against Auburn and Texas A&M. A third win over LSU could get the Rebels into the postseason, but they’ll have to do it at Alex Box Stadium.

11. Florida

Florida faces a road game at Georgia this weekend. Winning that could put the Gators in the NCAA tournament. If you lose, Florida might not even be eligible for an at-large bid because it’s under .500.

12. LSU

LSU’s NCAA Tournament hopes are hanging by a thread. The Tigers will likely have to beat Ole Miss in what is almost certainly a postseason elimination series.

In a baseball oddity, Missouri has eight SEC wins and seven of those were by one point. The Tigers are on the brink of elimination in the SEC Tournament; they should sweep Mississippi State and sweep LSU.

14. Chestnut brown

Auburn avoided history with its win over Missouri: No SEC team has ever lost 10 SEC series, and no team has ever lost 25 SEC games. The Tigers won’t make the postseason, but are now clear of both hurdles.
