Texas is once again the worst state in the US for mental health care

We have a lot to offer in Texas, but easy and affordable access to mental health care isn’t one of them.

For the second year in a row, Forbes Advisor ranked Texas lowest among the other 49 states for mental health care. Not only does Texas have the second-highest number of uninsured adults with mental health conditions, but we also have the second-highest number of youth with mental health conditions who are not receiving mental health care.

Alabama, Florida and Georgia were only slightly better than Texas. Vermont came in as the number one state for mental health care.

The Forbes survey found that the entire US is seriously lacking when it comes to mental health care. Approximately 28 million people in the United States with mental illness do not receive any form of treatment at all. Let that sink in for a moment. It is not good.

I have lost several friends to suicide over the years, many of whom worked in the restaurant industry. The lack of insurance in that field is insane. No one really has it. Everyone REALLY needs it. The hours are tough, the pay is minimal, and sometimes it can all take a toll on you, especially if you’re already dealing with an untreated mental illness.

If you are a business owner in Texas and your employees don’t have insurance, consider making a change. It will help you in the long run to have happy and healthy employees.
