Suspect dead in shooting at Amazon distribution center in Ohio, officer injured

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A suspect in a shooting Sunday at an Amazon distribution center in Madison County was killed during a confrontation with police in Columbus that left one officer injured, reports say.

WBNS Channel 10 reports the injured officer was taken to Grant Medical Center and was in stable condition. The identities of the officer and suspect have not been released, but West Jefferson police confirmed the suspect was an Amazon employee.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says emergency crews were called at 4:42 PM on Sunday after receiving reports of multiple shots fired at the Amazon CMHF fulfillment center in West Jefferson. There were no grand jury reports of the shooting, but the suspect was gone before police and deputies arrived.

WCMH Channel 4 reports the Columbus shooting happened on the city’s west side just after 6 p.m. Officers reportedly encountered the suspect in the Amazon shooting, but details about what led to the shooting between police and the suspect have not been released.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the police shooting.

“We are grateful that no one at our facility was injured during this incident and for the work of our on-site team and first responders,” Amazon said in a statement to WBNS. “As this is an active investigation, we are working with the West Jefferson Police Department and will defer further comment to them at this time.”
