Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft, is already making waves for the Washington Commanders, with teammates praising him as he gears up for his rookie season.

Washington made a decisive move during last month’s NFL Draft in Detroit, making Daniels their second pick. The Heisman Trophy winner is seen as a beacon of hope for the Commanders, who have seen a revolving door of quarterbacks in recent years, with eight different starters over the past four seasons.

The team is looking to add a consistent franchise quarterback, a role no one has held for more than three seasons since Mark Rypien’s tenure from 1989 to 1993. Despite drafting five first-round quarterbacks since then, none remained long-term. .

However, Daniels is determined to change that narrative. During his first rookie minicamp workout, Daniels participated in a standard one-hour session designed to get the new recruits up to speed on the playbook. Even in this basic training, Daniels managed to stand out and quickly demonstrated to his fellow rookies the qualities he brings to the Commanders.

“He’s a stud,” third-round wide receiver Luke McCaffrey exclaimed. “I know he’s a great quarterback and a lot of fun to play with from a personality standpoint. I’ve had a blast in these 24 hours with him. … He’s just fun to be around; he brings good energy.”

Daniels’ first rookie workout drew a large crowd, with about 55 media members in attendance. He seemed to be enjoying himself, taking breaks from his precise deep passes through the middle of the field to laugh with coaches and teammates as he learns to navigate the dynamics of a professional locker room and become a leader.
