Texas softball earns the No. 1 overall seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament

Despite losing to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Softball championship game on Saturday, Texas softball still secured the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

The Longhorns (47-7, 23-4 Big 12) are the top players in the postseason softball tournament, as revealed during the Road to the Women’s College World Series selection show for the first time in school history. That earned them the opportunity to host a regional – and possibly a super regional – in Austin.

Texas earned the No. 1 seed over Oklahoma, which was selected as the tournament’s No. 2 overall seed. The two teams have gone 2-2 against each other this season, with the Longhorns winning two games at home against the Sooners.

Texas catcher Reese Atwood was named the Big 12’s Player of the Year as a player won the award for the first time since Taylor Thom won it in 2014, according to the program. Coach Mike White was also named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.
