The 2024 Golden Globe Awards have found a host.

On Thursday, the Golden Globes announced that comedian Jo Koy will host the 81st awards ceremony, which airs Jan. 7 on CBS.

Koy, 52, said in a statement: “I have performed on many stages around the world in my career, but this one will be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year. This is the moment when I can make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!”

“We are thrilled to have Jo host the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards and bring his infectious energy and relatable humor to kick off Hollywood’s awards season. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for the stars in the room and a global audience,” said Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne. “We know Jo brings his A-game.”

Koy is the first host to take on the Globes role after Dick Clark Productions and holding company Eldridge purchased the rights and assets for the long-running awards show in June.

The Golden Globes were previously administered by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which was founded in 1943 and has faced a number of high-profile controversies over the way the show was handled in recent years. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosted the ceremony last year and spotlighted the HFPA’s diversity scandal during his monologue.

There was no host at the 2022 Golden Globes; its former broadcast partner NBC declined to broadcast that year’s ceremony in response to the scandal. Other recent presenters include Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who cohosted the Globes for the fourth time in 2021, and Ricky Gervais, who also presented for the fourth time at the 2020 ceremony.

Barbie received a total of nine nominations for the ceremony and leads among films in total nominations; Oppenheimer followed by eight, while Killers of the flower Moon And Poor things both received seven nominations. On the television side Succession‘s final season received a total of nine nominations.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will air live on CBS on Sunday, January 7 from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM ET, immediately following a NFL on CBS Sunday doubles. The show is also streaming on Paramount+ and available on the CBS app.
