Raleigh is preparing to celebrate law enforcement as National Police Week begins

Several cities and towns in North Carolina are preparing for the start of National Police Week.

The week of appreciation for police officers started on Sunday.

The events begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday with a memorial service at Hayes Barton Baptist Church. The ceremony will honor 23 fallen Wake County law enforcement officers.

Several City of Raleigh facilities and downtown buildings, including the WRAL news tower, will glow blue to honor fallen officers.

Several events are planned to help the public celebrate and honor officers, including:

  • Flags honoring fallen heroes on Fayetteville Street
  • Shop Local Raleigh offers meals to officers all week
  • 10% of sales will be donated to the Raleigh Police Department Foundation at MARTA’s in North Hills.
