DCC Fools Gold and Tate Kirchenschlager win the title with the gold buckle

Tate Kirchenschlager claimed another victory with DCC Fools Gold at the Gold Buckle Futurities Spring Event, claiming the $20,500 6-and-Under Heading Maturity title, including two go-round wins.

Kirchenschlager also won second place with A Painted Sunshine, the 2023 ARHFA World Champion Lead Horse, worth $6,500 plus an additional $1,000 for a first-round win.

DCC Fools Gold is a gelding by Metallic Echo from 2019 out of DCC Smooth Sugar by CJ Goldrush and has been in the Kirchenschlager program since the winter of 2023. Sourced from the Dasco Cattle Co. ranch in New Mexico, the horse already had the right buttons from all the outdoor riding he had had, so the transition to a show horse was easy.

“This horse is progressing well, he just hasn’t taken a break to win first,” Kirchenschlager said. “He was in the top three after the first two in Scottsdale and we had a no-time, and we missed one in Houston. But we did well in Ardmore and this weekend we were lucky again.”

The horse scored a 905.56 on four heads to win the roping with NFR heeler and now full-time roping horse helper Brock Hanson at his feet.

“He did a good job of positioning those steers where Brock could follow them,” Kirchenschlager said. “Those steers were big and physical. That horse likes to get on his behind and pull the oxen around, so this setup suits him. He is a physical horse and he wants the weight of the handlebars at the end of the rope. In practice we do a lot of escapes to get him to listen to me and wait because he longs for that hit and pull.

The Gold Buckle Futurities 2024Spring Event nearly doubled DCC Fools Gold’s earnings as he took in $28,621 in QData over the weekend. Gold Buckle and Southern Ranches added an additional $10,000 bonus for first place in each class, making the payout stand out.
